A Video — "Pinawaca" tells the captivating story of the original Amazonian fly fishermen. The film follows Rodrigo Salles's journey into the Amazon to discover the indigenous tradition of fly fishing, a craft honed for generations using natural resources from the jungle. Together with Jako Lucas (featured above), they delve into this ancient technique, aiming to catch the elusive Peacock bass with a distinctive fly, the "Pinawaca," crafted under the guidance of an indigenous fisherman. Their expedition uncovers the profound bond between the indigenous people, their art, and the environment. This adventure culminates in a remarkable catch using the Pinawaca, immortalizing this experience in the annals of Amazonian fly fishing and celebrating the lasting heritage of the Rio Marie's original fly fishermen.
"Pinawaca" is an official selection at the International Fly Fishing Film Festival (IF4™) 2024. For information on the screening schedule and to purchase tickets, visit the IF4™ website and view the trailer below!

Conservation — After a contentious five-hour meeting, conservation-minded decisions prevailed in the approved Addendum II, a set of regulatory measures aimed at ensuring the sustainable management and conservation of the striped bass population. The addendum reflects the collective call from stakeholders for more conservation-oriented fishing regulations, including slot size limits and catch reductions, to protect the future of the striped bass fishery. Addendum II specifically includes changes such as adopting a 28-31” slot limit for ocean recreational fishing and uniform regulations across the recreational sector to aid in the rebuilding of the striped bass stock. These measures were informed by public comments and scientific data, highlighting a significant step toward balancing fishing practices with the need for conservation and stock rebuilding efforts.
Thank you, Tony and the entire ASGA team for your continued persistence in protecting our fisheries.
