Welcome to Issue #24 of the Fishing Club Journal!
Happy New Year to all our new and returning readers! As the cold grips most parts of the US, we’ve curated an issue that transports us to warmer climes. We begin with our cover feature on UK's Marina Gibson, take a trip to Florida to meet some angling legends and talented artist, journey to San Francisco’s Lost Coast Outfitters, and then return to London for a delightful seabass recipe from the culinary experts at Fallow.
We hope this issue brings you both warmth and inspiration.
Stay fishy!

An Outfitter — Many people ask me what fishing is like in San Francisco. A few years back, George Revel from Lost Coast Outfitters shared insights into owning a fly shop in downtown San Francisco. He spoke about the local urban adventures and the various rivers nearby.
George's ethos is deeply rooted in fostering community, promoting education, and supporting conservation efforts. He not only manages the shop but also helps others discover the joys of the outdoors, finding time to enjoy these pursuits himself. If you're in the SF/Bay Area, consider stopping by Lost Coast Outfitters. You'll get a warm welcome, and you might even meet Diesel, the shop's famous dog.
Visit them online at www.lostcoastoutfitters.com, or give them a call at 415-483-2278. The shop is located at 540 Jackson St, San Francisco, CA 94133.

A Recipe — William Murray and Jack Croft are at the helm of Fallow, a notable restaurant in London. We've been enjoying their easy-to-follow recipes and culinary tips on YouTube. Like this pan-seared seabass and simple brown butter sauce. William guides us through his step-by-step process of preparing the perfect fish, just as it's done at Fallow. He introduces a pre-cooking method that's new to me, and I'm eager to give it a try.

A Beast — For those who have found themselves meticulously working behind a fly tying vise, Bob Popovics' flies, are likely a familiar sight. His book 'Fleye Design: Techniques, Insights, Patterns' was a pivotal gift I received from my in-laws as I began honing my craft. I delved into every page, absorbing the techniques and insights, which helped me develop my own style and proficiency in tying predator baitfish patterns.
Bob, in collaboration with Ahrex, developed an innovative hook for these type flies. The result is the SA290, an oversized, saltwater hook available in sizes ranging from 8/0 to 4/0, perfect for the ambitious tier.
That’s a wrap! Thank you for reading and we hope to see you on the next issue or on Instagram. If you don’t already, you can follow the Fishing Club Journal on Instagram and feel free to reach out with tips, feedback or just to say hello.
